The title of my graduation film is Paracosm, which is defined as a detailed imaginary world, originating in childhood. This term has been ascribed to Lewis Carroll, who as a child created elaborate imaginary worlds and stories for the entertainment of his siblings. The creation of a Paracosm has also been linked to adult creativity. Thus, it seemed a fitting metaphor for the rumination of the imagination.
The short animated film is about a young man who receives a pair of Mixed Reality glasses that enable him to live out his fantasies. However, his world is soon turned upside down when his imagination takes on a threatening life of its own.
The film is set in a dreary urban environment and inspired by current fears surrounding new technology like Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality. It uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation to create a binary between the two worlds.
